UNBROKEN: The Spirit of America's Soldiers

Comments Off

Memorial Day provides us all the opportunity to honor and remember the courageous men and women who have served our country. Laura Hildebrand’s best-selling book Unbroken chronicles the incredible story of Louis Zamperini. It’s a tale of redemption and perserverance that exemplifies the resolve and determination of our American soldiers.

Zamperini was a distance runner who competed in the 1936 Olympics. As a member of the armed forces in World War II, his plane crashed in the Pacific. He floated for 47 days in a raft before being picked up by a Japanese war ship, only to be taken to a prison camp where he and his fellow soldiers were subjected to unimaginable mental and physical torture.

And yet he survived. Now 94, Zamperini embodies the dedication and resolve of those who have defended [and those who still defend] our great country.

If you get a chance, please read his story. But whether or not you get a chance to read Unbroken, take the time to say Thank You to every veteran you know. Without them, America would be just another country.
